You can watch them use their critical thinking skills as they build letters, get creative with shapes, and experiment with clothes and colors, which turn into fun story creations. Honestly, even as an adult I was captivated by the way the camera recognizes the pieces that kids choose and place on the mat! It feels magical as the chosen pieces come to life in the Osmo animations. Finding a way to allow children to engage in meaningful screen time is such an amazing feeling and the laundry list of skills we can see them working on first-hand reinforces our love for this set. From spatial reasoning, critical thinking, language skills, fine motor skills, and social-emotional understanding, these activities are covering a lot of ground. Clean up and storage is really nice as well because the materials come in sturdy plastic containers with secure lids, so that the pieces aren't lost.
The Little Genius Starter Kit is designed for 3- to 5-year-olds and provides hands-on learning critical for development. - ABCs - Kids use straight and curved pieces to form letters, which appear on the screen in a fun scene with our main character. The app allows you to set level of guidance and work with letters only, or objects that start with the letter sound as well. If the letter doesn't look quite right, they'll be instructed to try again and given tips on how to make it.
- Squiggle Magic - This app activity brings out a lot of creativity and critical thinking as kids try to recreate shapes and characters. Once their shape is made, it's transported to the screen to move around in an interactive background scene. This one kept the kids busy for what seemed like hours!
- Costume Party - One of our personal favorites, you'll get to dress up the boy in a variety of hats, shirts, and bottoms to create different characters that come to life on the screen. This is the activity that felt especially captivating!
- Stories - Get ready to take those dressed up characters on a journey through the story with this app! Along the way, kids need to problem solve basic scenarios as they encounter obstacles such as how to wake up the bear to move on to the next of the story. (We chose to wake him up by playing a guitar!)
