2020 Holiday Gift Guide: Fairy Season #GoodGamesPublishing

It’s Fairy Season! Goblins are on the prowl in the forest trying to catch as many Fairies from all four seasons as they can! Herd the Fairies into Swarms and use Goblins to trick and trap them for points. Whomever who catches the most Fairies wins! Good Games Publishing out of Sydney, Australia puts out a lot of quality games. Their latest Fairy Season, is a fun trick-taking card game designed for groups of 3 to 5. We enjoy fast-paced card games requiring a bit of strategy and thinking ahead. Fairy Season delivers!

How to Play

Deal each player 5 cards which they keep hidden in their hand. First player lays a card on the discard pile, called the Swarm. The following player must play a card in the same season and a of a higher number OR play a card of the following season OR a Goblin or Trap card. You can play a Spring Fairy over a Winter Fairy because it's the next season, but NOT over an Autumn or Summer Fairy. Goblins direct you to do certain things such as take cards from the Swarm, swap cards between players, steal cards from another player's Stash, etc. Traps capture the entire Swarm (discard pile) but can be trumped by another Trap and Royal Fairy cards. Once you capture Fairies they become part of your personal Stash pile. If the following player cannot play a card from their hand the previous player wins the Swarm.

We found the Traps and Royals one of the  most interesting part of the game. Sometimes it's a better strategy to lose Fairies into the Swarm if you have a hand full of Trap cards waiting to pounce. Different Goblin cards also allow you to steal from other player's Stash piles which can be used surgically for a win.

The player with the most points wins. Fairy cards are worth 1 point and Royal Fairies are worth 2. However, if any one player ever has all four Royals (King, Queen, Prince, and Princess) that's an automatic win! Our games didn't take any longer than half an hour and sometimes were as quick as 15 minutes.
