2018 Holiday Gift Guide: STEM books for the Holidays #scienceforkids #STEM #educationalgifts

Those of you who follow us often know that we love giving educational gifts to the children in our family. Over the past few years, we've really focused on gifts that complement the STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and feel it's never too young to get our little ones interested! National Geographic Kids Books never disappoints in this area. The content is always written in a way that is easy for little readers to understand and the illustrations and photographs draw them in and keep them engaged. This year, we decided to put together an earth science book basket that makes a perfect for gift for young readers, classroom teachers, holiday auctions, and more! Check it out below...

About the Books
Since I’m always curious about the content of books before I buy them online, here’s a quick peek at the writing style and graphics:

  • Jump into Science: Rocks & Minerals - This hardbound book is packed with content. Kids are led through the pages by an expert rock guide who takes them on an adventure to discover the building blocks of our planet. They'll learn about a variety of rocks and minerals and the amazing ways people transform them into usable materials. The mix of illustrations and photographs together make each page visually stimulating and helps kids to understand the material in an easy, attainable way.

  • Jump into Science: EarthquakesLearn about what earthquakes are, what causes them, and how to stay safe when one occurs. They even include a science experiment to create an earthquake of your own! We love the questions and answers they provide as a follow up to the experiment.

  • Jump into Science: Volcano - We love the dragon who guides us through this book! The illustrations are so fun and there a nice mix of humor and facts throughout the text. Learn about volcanoes all over the world and then build a volcano of your own with the experiment included at the end of the book.

  • Jump into Science: Dirt - Follow a star-nosed mole over and underground and learn how the soil helps things grow. We love the project included at the end of the book which tells how to create a soil ecosystem in a bottle!

I can’t say enough about the quality of these books. I wish I had them in my classroom while I was a teacher. If you’re looking for a classroom gift, this is a fantastic go-to for elementary and middle school as well. I know it will make us a hit for the holidays with the little ones in our family.

You may even want to pair these books with a rock cleaning set, volcano kit, or hands-on earth science experiments to create the ultimate basket!
