Give Your Kids Goosebumps on Halloween! #scholastic #Halloweengifts

Halloween is only a few weeks away! We go all out for this holiday, complete with house decorations, themed food (dinner includes 'zombie fingers') and Halloween gifts. With so many happy memories of trick-or-treating with friends growing up, we fully support carrying on the tradition. However, as parents, I bet we're not alone in saying that we're less than thrilled with the pounds of candy that the kids collect by the end of the night. This is where our Halloween gifts come in! We do let the kids choose a few special pieces of candy to celebrate the night with (after it's thoroughly checked, of course), but each year we like to find something special that doesn't include a candy-high and over-sugared teeth. After talking with other parents, it seems that this idea is becoming a lot more popular. This year we chose a few books from the Goosebumps Most Wanted series by R.L. Stine.

Below are the Spooktacular titles we're giving this year! Each story is recommended for kids ages 8-12. Of course, we recommend parental judgement to decide if kids on the younger end of this range can handle the spookiness.

Goosebumps Most Wanted Special Edition #3: Trick or Trap
This story sets itself up for a creepy time when Scott and Amanda decide to throw a Halloween party at an old haunted house. Instead of treats, they plan traps for the bullies that always pick on them at school. Things take a turn when the house decides to play its own tricks and set its own traps!

Goosebumps Most Wanted Special Edition #4: The Haunter
Bravery is a must on Halloween. Sammy Baker wants to prove his bravery to his friends. This leads to an adventure in a haunted mansion, a ghostly body invasion and some pretty serious mind control. Sammy soon realizes that the Haunter's goal is to turn him into a ghost, too!

Goosebumps Most Wanted #10: Lizard of Oz
First off, we love that the main character in this book is a girl. Kate's parents give her permission to order a copy-cat lizard from a pop-up ad she found on the computer. The lizard is shipped from Australia and arrives in a peculiar form...an egg! The instructions are clear: 'You MUST let the egg hatch by itself. Do NOT hurry it and do NOT open the egg early-no matter how much noise it makes...'

Interested in giving Goosebumps books for Halloween, too? You can choose from a great lot of them through the Scholastic website here.

Wishing everyone a safe Halloween filled with more more treats than tricks. Don't forget to check all of the candy thoroughly before letting the kids dive in!
