One of the best things about the holiday season is the parties! This year nearly every weekend from November to New Year’s , we’re either going to or hosting a party. Now of course we love getting together with friends, family, or coworkers, but equally as exciting is the food! It seems like holiday parties cause people to step up their game. The wine is a little better, the food is themed and the desserts are decadent. Like most people, I have a hard time holding back. Everything looks so good, that I want to try it all…and I do. Without a doubt, it leads to the office conversation about how much weight everyone has gained and how much time they’ll have to spend at the gym working it all off.
We’re realistic enough to know that this is not going to change, but this year, we thought we’d try to create what we like to call ‘decadence on a diet’. This way we can help our guests (and ourselves) cut calories while they indulge. We put extra effort into finding delicious wines, cocktails and desserts that are also lower in calories. For the drinks, we decided to try Skinny Girl wine and vodka because they're products are already low calorie and the taste isn't sacrificed in the process . Here’s what we’re going with this year:
Skinnygirl Cabernet Sauvignon-This is a great full-bodied wine with dark fruit tastes like currants and a subtle aftertaste of chocolate. You'd never guess that it was a low-cal wine from the taste of it. Because it pairs so well with chocolate and fruity desserts, it's a natural choice for the holidays. This red wine is only 100 calories.
Skinnygirl Chardonnay-If you like Chardonnay, you're probably looking for an oaky wine. This chardonnay is crisp and light, with a light to moderate oak finish. It's a great choice as an easy-pleaser of white wine drinkers. And yes, it's another 100 calorie wine!
Skinnygirl Bare Naked Vodka-This was an easy choice for us as far as vodkas go. Between the low calories and the smooth taste, we decided it would be perfect for mixed drinks, holiday-themed drinks or alone over ice. One of our personal holiday favorites is a cranberry holiday punch. It's super easy to make, too:

2. Place a small bowl of fresh cranberries next to the punch bowl, as a garnish that guests can add as they please.
Now, what’s a great drink without a delicious dessert to go with it? My husband suggested his favorite—pumpkin mousse, and I was able to adjust the ingredients to bring the calories down with out sacrificing taste. I thought it was a great idea for a seasonal dessert, but I’m a huge chocolate lover, so I had to go with a mud-pie trifle, too. There’s something about dark chocolate and red wine that is just so right. This is a really easy recipe (especially if you cheat and by the box mix, like I do.)
