DIY: Wedding Bouquet Crafty Idea! #PreserveWeddingBouquet

10 Easy steps to a Wedding Bouquet Shadow Box

Several years after one of the best days of my life, there was no arguing that the dried out wedding bouquet which had been placed in a vase in our bedroom needed a creative lift. I really didn't want to part with it, but each time I dusted the dresser, petals would fall off. After asking friends and family for suggestions, it was clear that no one really had a solid idea unless the flowers were fresh. And then, as my husband and I strolled the aisle of Michael's (talk about a good husband!), an idea was born...

Materials:
  • Small Shadow Box Frame
  • Wooden Letter
  • Wedding bouquet
  • Tray or Deep Pan
  • 2 one-gallon ziplock bags
  • glue

  1. Pull off flower petals and place in a one gallon plastic ziplock bag. Pull off leaves and place in a one gallon ziplock bag as well.
  2. Crush each bag to desired size chunks of petals and leaves. (We used a mix of medium and small pieces.)
  3. Pour the petals in one large tray and pour the leaves in another tray.
  4. Apply and spread glue on the front of your wooden letter.
  5. Place wooden letter glue-side down in the tray of crushed petals and press firmly, holding for 30 seconds.
  6. Take wooden letter out of the tray and shape any over-hanging petals so that they lay only on top of the letter.
  7. Secure the wooden letter onto the backing of the wooden frame. Many frames come with pins that will hold the letter in place. If yours does not, glue will work just fine, but be sure to let it dry fully before moving on to the next step.
  8. Using the crushed leaves, begin to glue pieces around the wooden letter, to provide a contrast in color.
  9. Put the shadow box frame back together.
  10. Place your newly preserved bouquet in a special place in your home!
**As you can see from the photo, we still have a few more petals that we need to add to our letter, but I wanted to show small sections to give an understanding of what we did. You'll want to cover the letter completely, of course!
