Review: Unreal! Candy Unjunked #unrealcandy

We've heard a lot about this UNREAL candy lately. It's advertised as a healthier alternative to typical candy. To find candy that tastes just a good, but can be better for us sounded too good to be true. So of course, we had to try it! It took some looking to narrow down all of five types of candy, but CVS seems to carry the largest variety in our area.

I found a little background on their website which explains how UNREAL bars are different from leading candy bars:

"Along the way Nicky and Adam developed UNREAL™’s mantra:  “Unjunk™!”  Corn syrup?  Out.  Partially hydrogenated oils?  Out.  GMOs?  Out.  Artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives?  Out. Reduced sugar by over 40% per serving on average?  Check. They also decided key ingredients needed to be responsibly sourced, supporting farming communities and preventing destruction of the rain forests. All ingredients needed to be non GMO.  Dairy needed to come from pasture raised cows with no antibiotics or added hormones.

Here are the five kinds that we tried

Chocolate Candy Shell Peanuts-Think Peanut M&Ms, but with different colors and a smoother chocolate. One thing I noticed is that a normal packet of M&Ms seems to go really quickly. These Unreal Chocolate Candy Shell Peanuts are more filling. I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that this candy has more fiber and protein in it, but I was full after half of the package.

Chocolate Candy Shell- The chocolate is sweet, but a different taste than average American candy. It has more of a European chocolate smoothness to it and similar colors to the Peanut version.

Chocolate Caramel Nougat-My husband loves this candy bar. He finds it sweet and prefers the nougat to the competitor brands. He's on the fence about whether the chocolate is better than typical candy he eats, but for the benefits of health, it's a clear winner.

Chocolate Caramel Peanuts Nougat-It's a healthier alternative to Snickers! With 5 grams of fiber and protein, it blows other candy bars out of the water. The sugar is significantly less in all of these candy bars.

Chocolate Peanut Butter-These peanut butter cups were pretty good, though I have to admit, the taste didn't compare to Reese's Cups. For the health factor, I would probably make the switch to these because they definitely satisfied my peanut butter/chocolate craving and I only needed one to feel full, again, saving the second one for later.

The UNREAL candy bar website has a really cool page that compares each of their candy bars to similar candy bars on the market, as well as pieces of fruit. To check it out click here.
